Cons: Need to go to class to do well
Cons: He's boring, he focuses on almost only tests and his tests are hard.
Cons: Doesn't make it interesting.
Admittedly, it is really tedious, and seeing that its at 8am, I have to try o so hard not to fall asleep (its happened a couple times).
I highly suggest not ttaking this class. I currently have a 3.5 in the course. Also the TA's are both foreign so going to the recitation class is basically useless but you better go because you need the 15% of your grade participation points.
Lastly, he can be funny at times and he definetley knows his stuff, but if you want a good bore, dont take the class!!
I came to class every day, missed one class all semester. I went to office hours, I *tried* to participate in class. Unfortunately, Dave is not good at leading discussions. He is very uncomfortable in front of the class, he even had the powerpoints to tell us exactly what we needed to know...my only problem was the fact that whenever I took notes from the book the night before, when I would come to class, the notes I got from class were word for word out of the book.
Also, his guest speaker was more dry than Dave was...I didn't enjoy this class, most likely you won't either, so do yourselves a favor and find a different teacher.
PS, I got a 3.5 and did very little work, so he's easy, but it'll be the hardest class to enjoy.
Anyways, he could maybe use a little more enthusiasm sometimes, but you know he loves this kind of stuff and really wants people to take stuff away from the class. If you go to class you know what the essay will be on and for those who said he doesn't curve, that is a blatent lie. He curved all the tests AND random quizzes.
The final exam was really easy. We went over the essay (which made up 50% of the final) in class many times and the multiple choice was from all the quizzes in class. I think he improved as a teacher throughout the year and only expect him to get better.
You HAVE to do the reading (at least look it over before class)
Show up for class... there are random quizzes that are a decent % of final grade.
listen to the lectures (this is somewhat difficult) don't just copy the powerpoint... most of the important information comes from what he has to say.
Finaly, I would like to say to those bashing Mr. Dreyer, that if you had donr the things he has told us we would have to do from the beginning you would find the class much easier. There is nothing I hate more than people who do not account for their actions. If you didn't read or show up for class than it's your fault!
Let's remeber that we are in college and that life's tougher now!
